Adventure Awaits! (Our Story)

On the Road with Badger Call Design

There are two paragraphs left, they are written, but just haven't happened yet and will be added by my goal date of Sep. 3oth 2024

I’m Grady Morris, and together with my wife Penelope, we’ve embarked on an adventure that reshaped our golden years into something extraordinary. After dedicating over two decades of my life to the Navy as a deep-sea diver and following that with twelve years of civil service, retirement could have been just another chapter of rest and relaxation. However, Penelope, who retired after a rewarding career as an optician turned dog-sitter, and I had other plans. In 2022, we sold our house and most of our belongings, bought a Class A RV—which we affectionately named "Tiffiny"—and a Jeep Gladiator “Grady8r” to tow behind it, setting the stage for our life on the road.

Our journey began in San Diego, California, and took us through varied landscapes to places as distant as Rock Valley, Iowa, and back to Trout Creek, Montana. Life in Tiffiny was luxurious in many ways, but it also opened our eyes to the financial realities of living a nomadic life. Just when we were getting used to this new life, I had to undergo knee surgery back in California. The surgery went well initially, but a fall that ripped open the fresh wound led to sepsis and a grueling two-month stay in the hospital between April and June 2023. This not only put a significant pause on our travels but also struck a severe blow to our finances, exacerbated by the high costs of RV parks.

Amidst a vast walnut grove on a family friends California Central Valley Farm, I found myself desperately searching for a solution to our financial strain. That’s when I came across Chris Heckman on YouTube, an expert in the Print On Demand (POD) business. Inspired by his success, and his selfless free teachings, I felt a spark of possibility for us to create a business that could journey with us wherever we went. Penelope and I poured over ideas, combining my Navy background with our shared love for adventure, leading to the birth of Badger Call Design on February 6th, 2024. Our business name was a tribute to my Navy call sign, and our vision was to produce apparel that not only looked good but also evoked a sense of pride and nostalgia.
